Organization Looking to Revitalize Blighted Property

The City Council has had much debate of late over the issue of grass cutting. As we told you in June, there's an ordinance on the books that fines landowners $100 each time the city has to come cut your grass, however, often times the grass the city has to cut is from abandoned properties so they never really collect their $100. Well now, there's a non-profit organization that is applying for a grant to acquire foreclosed and blighted properties in the McComb-Veazy neighborhood (East of Evangeline Thruway, between Simcoe and Pinhook) for redevelopment. The Lafayette Land Revitalization Authority, as Richard Burgess of the Advocate reports, is in the process of writing a grant so they can get the funding to purchase the land and use it to build new sources of housing.
