A lawsuit has been filed against the St. Martin Parish Sheriff, the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center, and 2 inmates for allegedly beating a prison guard while under the influence of crystal meth. According to the suit, the guard claims that she was beaten with a padlock in a sock while the inmates were high. She also says that the inmates obtained the drugs from a known meth lab that was being operated inside the jail that she claims prison officials were aware of. Jason Brown of the Advocate has the whole story, but apparently this isn't the first time drugs have been found inside this jail. Brown reports that 3 corrections officers have already had charges brought against them for distributing drugs within the facility.
