Zydeco Rocking The Library

With most of the country mired in recession, money that would normally go to fund music festivals, and art centers is drying up. Add to that, a glut of Cajun and Zydeco bands from our area, competing for a limited number of slots nationally, and you have a situation that calls for creativity and ingenuity for musicians to find work. Leon Chavis may have stumbled upon one possible answer with his recent tour of the Oklahoma library system. William F. O'Brien wrote this piece for the Edmond Sun chronicling a performance Chavis and his father Joesph did in Oklahoma City. O'Brien interviewed Dana Morrow who first saw Chavis at a "Francophone Festival" in Lafayette. Gee, I wonder which fest that might be? Regardless, hats off to Leon for trying something new. Read the rest here. And check out a YouTube video of the tour here.
