Drilling Process May Cause Earthquakes
The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources is carefully monitoring a series of small earthquakes in Texas that may be caused by a process to extract shale...the same process they are using in the Haynesville Shale Project near Shreveport. Historically Texas and Louisiana are not prone to earthquakes so some geologists are concerned that the drilling along fault lines may be causing them. Jen DeGregorio from the Times-Picayune does a really good job of explaining the issue here and for more information on the Haynesville Shale project, geology.com has all sorts of articles, maps, and videos.
