The Lafayette Parish City-Council has been going round and round on the issue of how much money cities within the parish need to pony up for Animal Control. Currently the City of Lafayette is paying 100% of the costs associated with picking up stray animals...even if it's not in Lafayette but maybe Scott or Youngsville instead. Earlier this year a proposal was presented in which they assessed each city their share according to population percentages, but some mayors would prefer to be assessed on a per call basis and some argue that some strays are picked up on open land that's technically not in their city. Today's Daily Advertiser has a good article by Amanda McElfresh with all the details.
