Just A Little Smaller Than The Nike Swoosh

Well, it's never too early to talk about LSU football. It helps trick my mind into forgetting these stifling dog days of summer, imagining myself parked in front of the TV on a brisk, fall football Saturday. Actually, dropping a block of ice down my pants can do the same thing. But enough about me. This is about the Tigers, and for the first time in school history, LSU will be adding the initials "LSU" to the front of their jerseys. I'd like to say it's about honoring tradition, but it's really just another marketing tool. From the article:
“With the new SEC television contracts that require every game to be televised, this is another branding opportunity for LSU and our football program,” equipment manager Greg Stringfellow said. “Nothing else changes about the jersey. We make subtle changes from time to time but we are very aware of our history and the tradition with our uniforms and we won’t do anything to take away from that.”

Still, it does look pretty cool, and they've been nice enough to make replicas of the new jersey available for purchase starting next Tuesday at the LSU SportShop. The Advertiser ran the press release today. You can read it all here.
