He's Still Listening

As we mentioned last month, Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel is planning a "Listening Tour" to gather opinions on what Lafayette Parish residents see for future of the community. Yesterday he announced the first installment of his "Lafayette Tomorrow" project that begins with the "Today Listening Tour" schedule listed below. All of the meetings will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 14 - Robicheaux Center, 1919 Eraste Landry Road, Lafayette
  • Sept. 21 - Youngsville Library Branch, 506 Lafayette Street, Suite C, Youngsville
  • Sept. 23 - The Hall, 417 E. Gloria Switch Road, Carencro
  • Sept. 24 - Clifton Chenier Center, 220 West Willow Street, Lafayette
  • Sept. 28 - Comeaux Recreation Center, 411 W Bluebird St Lafayette
  • Oct. 1 - St. Cecilia Cafeteria, 302 West Main, Broussard
  • Oct. 5 - South Regional Library, 6101 Johnston Street, Lafayette
  • Oct. 7 - North Regional Library, 5101 N. University Avenue, Carencro
  • Oct. 12 - Duson Library Branch, 708 First Street, Duson
  • Oct. 14 - Scott Library Branch, 5805 W. Cameron Street, Scott

“As we plan for the future, I want to hear what the people of Lafayette want the future to look like,” Durel said. “While there is no doubt that people have the opportunity to have a voice in government through council meetings, committees, etc., I want to make it as easy as possible for people to share their vision with us...Communities don’t remain stagnant, they either grow or they die,” Durel added. “And while there’s no denying the momentum we have going, with the many positive rankings we have received, the possibilities with the Horse Farm and other initiatives, planning for the future is critical. I look forward to hearing from the people of Lafayette.”

Lafayette is the only major city in Louisiana to experience growth this century. Durel said he sees the Listening Tour as an opportunity to discuss this potential trend Lafayette is experiencing so we can better prepare for the future.

Durel also said the Listening Tour is not limited to the dates listed above, and that anyone interested in hosting one can contact his assistant, Ben Berthelot, at (337) 291-8307 or bberthelot@lafayettegov.com.
