Opelousas Civic Center Nears Completion
Thanks to a $4 million grant from the State Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Opelousas is getting a new civic center. William Johnson from the Daily World reports that the old Kroger building on Cresswell Lane is being renovated to house a regional office of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry along with a new civic center. Mayor Cravins is expecting the project to be complete by the end of November and is hoping to keep the facility active with meetings, wedding receptions and other special events. The project is expected to come in about $600,000 under budget so they are using the rest of the money to update the Yambilee building. Lots of other city departments are expected to move around before it's all said and done, so see the full article here.
