Increasing accidents on False River are what's prompting Pointe Coupee Sheriff Bud Torres to propose that the state create an auxiliary Coast Guard to help patrol the waterway. Area residents say that as boats get bigger and more powerful they are seeing more frequent accidents. The planned unit would be made up of volunteers that are trained and required to pass a test.
