Old Courthouse May Be Demolished
Recent City Council budget discussions have brought the future of the old federal courthouse building into question and Richard Burgess reports that the city is considering demolition. Right now only a handful of people work in the building located on Jefferson and Lee but because of the way the air conditioning system works, the city must run the entire unit and cool the whole space and cost the city about $100,000 per year. Renovation estimates say that it would be cost prohibitive to renovate the building so officials are hoping to demolish it and rebuild a multi-use living, retail, business space instead. Read Burgess' article and see a much better photo in today's Advocate.
