Tobacco Tax Hike Moving Through The House

Forbes.com picked up a story by the Associated Press reporter Melinda Deslatte stating that a proposed tax hike on tobacco products survived several attempts by law makers to bog it down in committee procedures. "Are you against a debate on the floor? Are you afraid of a vote?" Peterson, D-New Orleans, challenged House members during the procedural wrangling. Lawmakers who attempted to sidetrack the bill Tuesday, many of whom were opponents of the tax hike, repeatedly argued they only were trying to follow the House rules on movement of bills. Critics said the procedural moves were attempts to ensure the bill couldn't pass. Read it all here.
