More cameras - possibly less vans?

As you've probably noticed, like it or not, Lafayette is getting more Red Light Speed Cameras. Recently they have been installing more across town and the Lafayette Consolidated Government plans to have at least 29 when it's all said and done. According to the LCG website, they have 9 currently in place with plans to install the other 20 over the next couple of months. Click here for a complete list of current and planned locations.

In related news, the Safe Speed Van controversy apparently continues to boil. On February 13th, after the State of the Parish update, Mayor Durel was served with Class Action Lawsuit papers claiming that the vans were illegal, and in April, a new bill was introduced in the new legislative session that would ban the use of the vans in Louisiana cities. Despite that, The Advocate reported in May that the vans were planning to go back on the streets after a several week hiatus after a Scott man allegedly attacked a van with his vehicle. Stay tuned for more updates as they develop.

[[UPDATE: the cameras will stay for now as the bill to ban the cameras failed in the House. Click here for the full story]]
