Acadiana could receive over $81 million dollars for area construction projects.

KLFY is reporting that today the state House of Representatives passed the state's capital construction bill for the next fiscal year and included in it was over $81 million dollars designated for several area projects, including:
  • $24.5 million to invest in the completion of I-49 South.
  • $12.2 million to LSU-E to fund a new two-story classroom community education building that would contain lecture halls, auditoriums, tech labs, classrooms, and offices.
  • $8 million to DOTD for channel deepening in the Acadiana Gulf of Mexico Access Channel.
  • $6.4 million to UL -Lafayette to contribute to the new 24,490 sq. ft. research center in the University Research Park that will provide classrooms, labs, a child care suite, data analysis center, medical care area, and offices.
  • $5.8 million to the Acadiana Arts Council toward acquisition, planning, and renovation for the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
  • $5 million in new funding, for a total of $7.15 million, to the town of Youngsville toward the Youngsville Parkway Road Project.
  • $3.2 million for St. Martin Parish toward courthouse expansion and renovations.
  • $3.15 million to the UL-Lafayette to upgrade all utilities and finishes as well as revisions to comply with the Life Safety Code at Girard Hall.
  • $3 million to DOTD for the Morganza to Gulf of Mexico Flood Control Feasibility Study to include planning, design, right of way, and construction of levees, floodgates, and other.
  • $2.15 million to Lafayette Parish for upgrade, planning, and construction of the parish jail.
  • $2 million for Atchafalaya Basin protection and enhancement.
  • $2 million for the City of New Iberia toward sewer collection system improvements.
  • $1.5 million to the UL-Lafayette for renovation and expansion of Burke Hawthorne Hall, to contribute to a new 32,000 sq. ft. addition that includes classrooms, laboratories, and offices, as well as a 36,000 sq. ft. renovation that includes painting, flooring, lighting, HVAC, ADA, and other code upgrades.
  • $1.52 million to the town of Scott toward an emergency services building.
  • $930K for the Town of Carencro for a new fire station and city hall renovation.
  • $550K for the town of Maurice toward wastewater system improvements.
  • $550K to Pecan Island for water system improvements.
  • $350K for the Town of Erath toward a new police and fire station.
  • $300K for the City of Abbeville toward a new police station.
  • $205K for the City of Abbeville toward a sewer collection system upgrade.
